If you’re in the market for a new zero-turn lawn mower, there are a lot of choices out there. Aside from engine selection and build quality, is there anything that really stands out from the crowd? With the Husqvarna Xcite zero-turn lawn mower series, there actually is. We had the opportunity to use both models and see how the Xcite-ment translates into operator experience.

The moment you sit on one of these mowers, one of the key highlights is right at your fingertips. The left lap bar has an electronic start/stop button and the right lap bar houses the blade engagement button. You no longer need to take your eyes away from what's in front of you for either function.
There is still a key to turn on the control panel to the right, but that's more of a safety feature. The engine throttle is also on the side and there's a secondary start/stop button there as well.
Husqvarna chose Kohler engines for the Xcite zero-turn lanw mowers. The decision was very much because of the advanced fuel system and their auto choke functions that help them pair well with the bar-mounted ignition system.
At the time we’re writing, there are two models Husqvarna is launching with the Xcite line. Here's a quick overview of them.
From a pure performance standpoint, both mowers are very confident cutters, but the Parker transmission on the Z380 provides some extra benefits. On this model, the transmission pump pairs with larger wheel motors, eliminating the need for reduction gears along with the whine that often comes from hydro transmissions. The end result is more speed, responsiveness, and even better fuel efficiency.
While neither mower is uncomfortable to ride, the Z380 comes with a more comfortable seat and the overall ride feels better.
The suspension system has four link bars and is adjustable, making a big difference in overall comfort. Unlike other mowers, there are two adjustment points with four settings each, making 16 total combinations to dial it in.
The adjustments are on the left and right sides, but they adjust the entire suspension, not just the side it's on. To make a change, pull the spring-loaded pin out, slide it to the position you want, and let the pin drop back in.
For our crew, heavier riders preferred stiffer settings and lighter operators dialed it back some. The trick is to keep trying different settings until you find the combination you like.
Husqvarna Xcite zero-turn lawn mowers come with DuraSharp self-sharpening blades that can stay sharp for up to 5 years. Here in central Florida where we have a lot of bahiagrass, sugar sand, and a year-round mowing season, the blades won't last that long. However, we’ll still get far longer life and won't have to sharpen them as we do with standard mower blades.
Husqvarna includes a variety of information to cycle through on the digital control panel. You can view the fuel level, engine/mower statistics, service reminders, and more.
Like many ZTs, there's a foot assist to raise and lower the deck. Instead of a pin-based setting, though, there's a 12-position dial on the left side of the seat to adjust from 1.5 to 4.5 inches. With the deck in the travel position, turn the dial to the setting you want, release the deck with the foot pedal, and you’re ready to go.
The Husqvarna Xcite Z350 is $5499 and the Z380 is $6999. The mower comes with a 3-year warranty plus a 4-year warranty on the SmartControl electronic components. Check with your local Husqvarna dealer for availability and demo opportunities.
Husqvarna Xcite zero-turn lawn mowers were designed to bridge the gap between professional and residential needs. The design team brought together impressive comfort, build quality, and performance along with meaningfully innovative features that accomplish that goal. If you’re in the market for a new ZT, do yourself a favor and get over to your local Husqvarna dealer to demo an Xcite for yourself—you’ll be impressed.
